Auto-Immune Treatment

New insights to an alternative approach and treatment

Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)

What is LDN?

Naltrexone used in high doses (50mg and higher) is a medication that is used to treat addiction to opioids. However, studies have shown that Low-dose Naltrexone (LDN) has and is being used to treat autoimmune diseases such as, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, Crohn’s disease, psoriasis just to mention a few.

LDN works by blocking the action of endorphins, which are naturally occurring chemicals in the body that act as painkillers and mood elevators. When given in low doses, naltrexone stimulates the production of endorphins (happy enzyme), which can reduce inflammation, pain and fatigue, thus improving symptoms of autoimmune diseases.

What is LDN to me?

After being diagnosed with Grave’s disease and subsequently treated with RAI (Radioactive Iodine), I was diagnosed with 3 types of Psoriasis (head, nail and inversa) which progressed into Psoriatic Arthritis. I experienced both physical and emotional pain, fear, feelings of isolation and desperation dealing with these issues. I tried every treatment possible including biologicals which I was on for 2 years, there was definitely an improvement, but I found myself tackling the side-effects of the different treatments which sent me on a journey of discovery and research, this is when I found LDN. I researched all about this “secret jewel” and finally began treatment. LDN is by no means a miracle pill, but it has been a life changer for me, as I have been off all medication since 2018 aside from LDN and Synthroid for my thyroid. I changed my life style, nutrition and became more educated around the connection between mind and
body. Today I am 98% Psoriasis free, I have reduced my Synthroid medication from 800mg a week to 400mg and I have been in remission from Psoriatic Arthritis since 2019.

My goal is to educate and support as many people as I can who suffer from autoimmune challenges. My message is that you are not alone, you have a choice and there are alternatives – LDN being one of them.
